I'm excited to be writing this on behalf of my brother and myself. If you haven't heard already, we have joined Team In Training and are preparing to run in the San Diego Marathon on May 31, 2009 while raising money for the the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society .
For those who don't know Team In Training (http://www.teamintraining.org/) has been training regular people to complete endurance events for over 20 years and in that time has raised over $800 million dollars for the LLS (at least according to wikipedia).
Three people that I was close with have died of blood cancers. I lost my grandfather, Poppop, and 8th grade science teacher, Mr. Papa, to leukemia and Aunt Sandra to lymphoma. Each of them were special to me and helped me to grow into the person that I am today. It is to honor their memories that I am challenging myself to run 26.2 miles. I know that no matter how challenging my struggle is to finish this marathon, it will be nothing compared to the struggles that each of them faced.
The purpose of this blog is to provide one location where people can follow our training and fundraising. We each have individual fundraising websites where donations can be made and we ask that you split your donations between both of us so that we each can reach our fundraising goal of $4200.
