GOOD NEWS!!!

On my orthopedists suggestion I ran a little bit to see how my body would reaction to the impact of running. Last Wednesday I went for a jog with my friend Matt. We ran about 1.7 miles, and at the end of the run I felt surprisingly good. I felt no pains in my leg. The following day I went for a run with Sam. I decided to try a longer run this time. I was aiming for 4 miles but we took a different route than we did on a previous run and actually ran 4.7 miles, (which was the longest I've ever run). At the end of the run besides being completely exhausted I felt fine. Still no pain in my leg.

The following day (Friday) I reported this good news to my orthopedist. She said that as long as I'm not feeling any pains in my leg I can continue training for the marathon. This is the news I've been waiting to hear since I first realized I had a potential leg injury. She suggested that I switch to the half marathon since I've missed so much practice already, and because it would be better not push my body too much risking more injury.

After getting the OK from my orthopedist I was able to go to practice this Saturday!!! It was my first practice in a couple of weeks. I was excited to be back and able to run. I still don't want to push myself too hard till I know what my body can handle, but I managed to run about 5.4 miles in practice.

I'm thrilled that I don't have to back out of this race, like I did the 8K last week, and can still compete. At this point I'm planning on running the half marathon, but the full marathon is not out of the question as I see it. If I can avoid further injury and get my body in shape I still might to attempt the full marathon.

I'll keep you posted.

Henry

  1. Great! Glad you got the OK from the ortho.

I won't be running any marathons myself, but I did join the gym and I'm working with a personal trainer. My legs are feeling it today. I need to get in shape and lose some weight (as you already know well enough!). Hurting like I do today actually is a good feeling though. I know I'm making progress that way.
