Running Hills (the wrong way)

This past Wednesday at practice we had to run hills...the wrong way. Running hills the wrong way basically consists of swinging your arms all the way up and all the way down and taking big steps. Running hills the correct way is basically doing the opposite, you take small steps and pump your arms quickly. Running hills correctly is supposed to be the most efficient way to run hills, allowing you to keep running without exhausting yourself.

That having been said I was completely exhausted after running up and down a hill (the wrong way) for about 45 minutes on Wednesday night. It was quite a work out. On the up side, on the run back to our meeting spot felt great compared to the hills. The run back was probably a little less than 1/2 mile on flat ground and I felt like I could have just kept running like that as long as I needed to...as long as no hills were involved.

My leg still feels great, and I'm looking forward to practice tomorrow.

  1. Kind of sounds like when you ride a bike up hill. Switching into a lower gear so that you peddle as fast, or faster, but it is easier and perhaps takes a little longer.

If you try to leave the bike in a high gear, you're going to put an awful lot of effort into peddling to keep the wheels turning.

  2. So let me get this straight? Was that on purpose? :)
