It's been a while since I've made a post on this blog so I'll give you a quick update of what's been going on with me and my running. Like my last post stated I was getting ready to start training for the 2009 NYC Marathon. I completed a full training camp, got in a 17-18 mile long run and was all set to compete in that race. A few weeks before race day I injured my back and had to withdraw. The impact of running 26.2 miles would have been way too much for my back to handle. Even running 1 mile with my back the way it was, was way more than my back could handle.
In 2010 I was once again planning to do the NYC marathon but my back was still recovering from the previous year and by the time the injury healed I didn't have enough time for a full training camp.
This year was going to be my year for the NYC Marathon. I ran the Ragnar Relay with a team of 11 other people in May and that basically started my training for the 2011 NYC Marathon. I signed up to train with Team in Training once again and was really excited for this marathon. During the season I began feeling some pains in my achilles tendon in my right heal. I took it easy on my runs and stretched and iced my ankle a lot. Every time I thought the injury had healed I would try a longer run and sure enough it would flare up again. About a month or so before the marathon I made the difficult decision to withdraw from the race. I had barely been able to train and my ankle was still giving me problems so I really had no choice but to withdraw or seriously injure myself come race day.
So, this past Sunday instead of competing in the NYC Marathon I had to stand on the sidelines as my brother and a handful of other friends ran the race. It was frustrating knowing I should have been running with them but it was also nice seeing them run and cheering for them as they all ran by.
Keep checking this blog as I will write updates as my injury heals and I begin a new training camp. My plan at this point is to take most of the rest of this year to let my injury heal, and after the New Years I hope to be able to start running again seriously. I have two races I plan on competing in next May. The first is Run For Your Lives and the 2nd is a Tough Mudder the following day. Hopefully I'll be able to compete in both of those events in addition to next years NYC Marathon and who knows, maybe I'll do a few more races in between.
Stay tuned.

Sorry to hear about the back! That sucks! I hope you heal quickly, but don't push it.
