Training Update

Yesterday was my first day running in about 3 weeks.  I bruised my knee right at the beginning of the training season and had to completely sit out from running.  I was able to do some cross training including pushups, crunches and squates, but that did nothing to keep me in running shape.

My goal for this marathon is simply to finish, so I just wanted to ease back into running yesterday.  According to the training schedule prepared by our trainers, beginners should have run about 4 miles.  I decided to run with a 10 minute mile pace group and ran about 3 miles.  I'm a little behind, but I am prepared to work to close the training gap.  I've got my work cut out for me since as of today there are only 98 days until the marathon!!!

Today when I woke up, I laid in bed for about an hour just thinking about how sore my legs were.  I definitely felt every single muscle complaining to me about how I mistreated them yesterday.  There was no time to feel sorry for myself though, today is a scheduled 3-4 mile run day.  I mapped out a 2.9 mile run for myself and attacked it this morning.

I started my run strong, I wanted to push myself and try to make up for lost training time.  It felt good for about 3 blocks and then I realized that I'm not in shaped and I needed to slow down.  The goal is just to finish.  I had to slow down and pace myself but I managed to finish!

I felt like collapsing when I got home, but after resting for a half hour it felt good to be out running again and working towards my goal!
